Chair for general subjects has been established for a number of courses, such as the following:

• mathematics,
• informatics,
• maritime law and
• medicine for seafarers.

with the objective of effective performance of scientific and professional work.

The objectives of the Chair are:

• allowing students to use professional library materials, have access to relevant information, keep pace with the most recent advances in science and take an active part in world scientific events;
• specializing in and promoting of computer literacy;
• specializing in and promoting of knowledge of mathematics allowing students to apply mathematics in technical disciplines;
• acquiring different types of knowledge as an essential requirement for performing duties of management in shipping and maritime transport, as well as for continuation of professional and scientific work in the field of maritime sciences.

Besides their teaching obligations in work with the students, the Chair members are also authors of university handbooks, professional papers and they take active part in international scientific and professional conferences in Croatia and abroad.
