Teaching is performed in Croatian. If required, it can also be organised and performed in English. Teaching is organised and performed in the two semesters of an academic year (winter and summer) of fifteen-week-duration. Courses can be either one or two-semester which is laid down in the study programme.
Regular examination terms are winter, summer and an additional autumn term. A regular examination term is of at least four-week-duration. In the regular examination terms there are two examination dates for each course with the shortest possible interval of fourteen days.
Studies and Study Programmes
At the Faculty there are undergraduate studies of Nautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Management, Marine Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies and Maritime Yacht and Marina Technologies that aim at educating students to become ship’s masters and chief engineers or electronics officers. Undergraduate studies comply with STCW convention specifying the minimum standards of training, certification and watch-keeping for seafarers.
Graduate studies are designed for students who wish to become masters of science and after having completed their studies find a job related to the inspection of ships and ports, staff and technical management related to ports, marinas and shipping companies, or those who wish to proceed to postgraduate studies and become doctors of science in the field of technical sciences.
All study programmes fall into the scientific category of technical sciences, field of traffic and transport technology.
The basic features of the studies are:
- compliance and compatibility of the study programmes,
- international equivalence of degrees and professional titles,
- specific education of ship’s officers in the world, as well as experts in maritime economy and tourism, which is reflected in close relationship of scientific and professional work and in the possibilities of life-long education and training.
